US Military Operation on Caracas Raises Concerns of Future Greenland Takeover.

The recent US-led strike in Venezuela and the capture of its president have sparked worry regarding Washington's ambitions on the Arctic territory. Members of the ex-president's political movement have allegedly turned their attention to the strategically important island in the wake of the operations in the southern hemisphere.

Inflammatory Posts and Diplomatic Outrage

Merely hours after the commencement of the Caracas operation, a prominent conservative podcaster, who is married to a senior presidential adviser, shared a symbolic image. The picture depicted Greenland covered in the American flag, with the cryptic caption: "COMING."

This overt suggestion to annex the mineral-rich land, which is a part of the NATO alliance, provoked swift and strong criticism from Denmark's officials.

"Denmark and the US are close allies and should continue to work together as such. US security is equally Greenland’s and our security," stated the Copenhagen's envoy to the United States. "The Kingdom of Denmark and the United States collaborate to guarantee security in the North."

The diplomat further pointed out that Denmark had substantially increased its defence spending recently, earmarking a substantial sum expressly for Arctic and North Atlantic defence. "And yes, we expect full respect for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Denmark," he emphasized.

Administrative Moves and Geopolitical Goals

The situation were further exacerbated by the previous appointment of a Southern governor as a special envoy to Greenland. The appointee had openly thanked the commander-in-chief, stating it was an "privilege" to serve in a volunteer capacity to "make Greenland a part of the US."

Following the military action in Venezuela, this representative commended the administration's decisive move, connecting it to the wider "fight against narcotics."

Ever since returning to office, the American leader has consistently alarmed transatlantic allies with his stated desire in Greenland. The territory is considered vitally strategic for defence and potential mineral exploitation. It currently hosts the most northerly US military base.

Refusing to Rule Out Force

In a notable media interview, the leader refused to rule out the use of military force to acquire Greenland. This position comes during intensifying global competition in the polar region. "I don't rule it out. I don't say I'm going to do it, but I don't rule out anything... We need Greenland very badly," he remarked.

He described Greenland as having a "very small amount of people, which we’ll take care of, and we’ll value them... But we need that for global security."

Mounting Friction and Indigenous Resistance

In response to this persistent "drumbeat" of intent, Danish intelligence service took the unprecedented step last month of labelling the United States as a "potential threat."

The leaders of both Greenland issued a joint and forceful statement: "We have said it very clearly before. Now we say it again... You cannot annex other countries."

Public opinion in Greenland reveals a complex sentiment. While a overwhelming percentage of the territory's inhabitants seek independence from Copenhagen, there is simultaneously little to no desire to join the United States. The territory has had the option to declare independence for many years.

Analyst View: A Credible Scenario?

Military analysts are increasingly reconsidering the possibility of such a move. One policy director specializing in military analysis admitted she had once dismissed the sabre-rattling but was "now not so sure."

"Logistically, it would be feasible for the US to deploy a few hundred or a couple thousand troops inside of Greenland, and it's not clear to me who could do anything about it," she concluded.
