Lando Norris Leads Piastri in Brazilian Practice

McLaren drivers in action — The British driver has outscored Oscar Piastri at all of the last five race weekends.

The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the top spot in the closing stages of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Norris, who seized the points lead from his teammate by just one point after his victory in Mexico City two weeks ago, outpaced the Australian by 0.023 seconds.

Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before the sprint shootout scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT.

Max Verstappen, the other racer in the championship fight, sitting 36 points behind behind Norris, was classified in 17th position as his team followed a different programme.

Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, if briefly, when he lost control at corner four during the early running.

The Japanese slid over the track edges before spinning across the gravel trap, and was fortunate to get away with just a minor contact of the wall.

Ferrari's the seven-time champion also lost it, at the conclusion of the practice, rotating twice through the high-speed Mergulho turn leading to the final corner on to the main straight.

The seven-time champion finished practice in 19th place, trailing teammate the Monegasque driver.

The McLaren pair were well clear of the rest of the field, with the German's Sauber in third, over half a second behind the Australian's time.

The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
